Imported by La Baia from a collective of smallholder farmers in the Huila region from the towns of Timaná, Suaza, Elías, Tarquí, Pitalito. This decaf is flavorful, chocolatey, and full of satisfying character. Our roast is tailored to create balanced decaf espresso drinks along with a satisfying drip brewed coffee. You get all the aroma and flavor without the caffeine and reduced acidity. This tasty regional lot is carefully converted into a top shelf decaf. If you're looking for your next favorite decaf, we think you'll love ours.
Our Decaf Huila is decaffeinated using natural cane sugar derived Ethyl Acetate (EA) at Descafecol, a company based on the outskirts of the town of Manizales in Colombia. EA decaf coffees are traditionally sweeter with more body than competing processes. In this method the green beans are steamed or soaked to expand the beans for caffeine extraction. The expanded beans are then soaked in EA, a naturally occurring organic compound found in many fruits and vegetables which can be synthesized for coffee decaffeination. In the presence of EA, caffeine bonds with the compound and is drawn out of the bean. The decaffeinated coffee is then removed from the EA solvent, rinsed thoroughly, re-dried and re-bagged for transport.
